IVSA Global

International Veterinary Students´ Association  Global

The International Veterinary Students' Association – shortened to IVSA – is a non-profit non-governmental organization run by volunteer veterinary students from all around the world. IVSA has got more than 30.000 veterinary students as members in 51 different countries (divided over different IVSA Member Organisations). IVSA was established on the 6th of August 1953 to benefit the animals and people of the world by harnessing the potential and dedication of veterinary students to promote the international application of veterinary skills, education and knowledge through the exchange of ideas, knowledge and culture.

The General Assembly (GA), consisting of delegates from all our member organizations, is the main governing body of IVSA. At the annual IVSA Congress the GA elects the Executive Committee, which is in charge of the daily running of IVSA, with the help of the Secretariat and the Trust, also elected by the GA.

Projects and activities
The projects and activities run by IVSA are pointed at the above stated goal. For example, several standing committees were established over the past years that aim to raise awareness and share information and ideas. Each of our standing committees – with the subjects Animal welfare, One health and Veterinary education – are run by IVSA members and managed by an IVSA member that holds the position of committee chair (also chosen by the GA during the annual IVSA congress).

Next to the various committees and working groups (working groups on Alumni & Policy Statements and Position papers) an annual summer congress and winter symposium are held. Both offer a wide range of veterinary and cultural activities into an intensive program. However, most important things are the General Assemblies that are being held and the creation of an opportunity for veterinary students to meet likeminded people from around the world.

Last, but not least, IVSA has established is its own ‘Development fund’. During a whole year vet students raise money to help underprivileged veterinary faculties around the world. Many students are already assisted by the fund, which not only improves education, but also raised the standard of health and welfare of the animals they care for.
